In recent years, Japan has had an increasing opportunity to encounter Korean entertainment culture through various content and media. In particular, “K-POP” and “Korean dramas” have gained immense popularity.
Therefore, based on a survey conducted by KPOP WEB MEDIA “Danmee,” we would like to share the findings on “What triggered Japanese K-POP fans to become fascinated with K-POP idols” among Japanese netizens.
What aspects of idols attracted Japanese fans and led them to become fans? This is what we aim to uncover.
-Appearance: 111 votes (27.54%)
-Dance: 92 votes (22.83%)
-Vocal skills: 80 votes (19.85%)
-Personality: 65 votes (16.13%)
-Other: 48 votes (11.91%)
-Rap: 7 votes (1.74%)
The survey was conducted in February 2023, and the target audience was both men and women who enjoy K-POP and Korean dramas. The survey method was an online questionnaire, and the valid responses totaled 403.
The highest number of votes went to “appearance,” followed by “dance” and “vocal skills.” These three elements may be the most important for determining one’s preference when encountering an idol.
Comments included, “I started with their appearance, and then discovered their other charms,” “I was shocked by how handsome he was,” “I became addicted after watching their acting in dramas and then seeing them sing and dance in videos,” and “As I watched, I learned about their efforts and personalities, and became a fan.”
Some even confessed that they had no interest in K-POP before but were drawn in by the unique charm of K-POP idols.
