Elderly Man Trapped in Train for 5 Hours at Shin-Tochigi Station

On July 5, Tobu Railway announced that a man in his 70s was stuck inside a train for about 5 hours at Shin-Tochigi Station on the Tobu Utsunomiya Line in Tochigi City, Tochigi Prefecture, Japan.

The train was the last one of the day and arrived at the station at 11:41 PM on July 4. After it stopped, two station staff members checked the inside of the train and closed the doors. They didn’t realize a passenger was still on board.

The next morning, around 4:40 AM on July 5, a driver was inspecting the train before it started its daily service. That’s when he found the elderly man sleeping on a seat. The man had been drinking and was intoxicated, but thankfully, he was in good health.

Tobu Railway responded to the incident by saying they will train all station staff to check trains more carefully. This way, they hope to prevent anything like this from happening again.
