Sakurajima evacuation alert level 5 (evacuation) raised
At 20:50 on Sunday, 24th today, the evacuation alert level of Sakurajima was raised from level 3 (mountain entry restrictions) to level 5 (evacuation). It is the first time Sakurajima reached level 5 since the eruption alert was set.
In residential areas (a part of Arimura-cho and Furusato-cho, Kagoshima City) within 3 km from the Minamidake summit crater and Showa crater of Sakurajima, please take strict precautions (evacuation, etc.) against large volcanic bombs.

At the Minamidake summit crater on Sakurajima, an explosion occurred at 20:05 on Sunday, 24th today, and a giant volcanic bomb that scattered in a trajectory reached about 2.5 km from the crater. The Japan Meteorological Agency has issued an eruption warning in connection with this eruption.
The volcanic activity of Sakurajima is very active. Therefore, in residential areas (a part of Arimura-cho and Furusato-cho, Kagoshima City) within 3km from the Minamidake summit crater and Showa crater, take strict precautions (evacuation, etc.) for large volcanic bombs.
